Shirley L. McMullen, 83, formerly of Altoona, died Monday evening at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Hayden W. and Emma (Kochenour) Grove. She married Edward F. McMullen on Sept. 11, 1948, in Cumberland, Md., and he preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1989.
Surviving are two daughters: Debra Appleby of Duncansville and Kim Paronish of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Jean Graffius, Peggy McCready and Delores McCloskey.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Geis, on Dec. 27, 2008; and six siblings: Louis, George, Ethel Lantz, Hayden, Richard and Robert.
Shirley was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School. She had been employed as a receptionist for Dr. Charles Fleck and previously had been employed as an assembler for Sylvania. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona, where she was a member of Girl's Knight at Bethany.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m., the Rev. Paula Schmitt officiating. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
