Roy D. Leister Sr., 83, Hollidaysburg, went to be with the Lord Tuesday from his home.
He was born in Dry Hill, Lancaster County, son of Roy Lee and Mary (Hart) Leister. He married Shirley Helsel on May 9, 1955, in Elkton, Md.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Roy D. Jr. and wife, Catherine (Burger); a son-in-law, Gregory S. Novosel and wife, Melany; three grandchildren: Gregory R., Caleb and Brandon Novosel; three sisters: Naomi Martin, Ruth Burkholder and Linda Hoover; and two brothers: Harold and Robert.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann (Leister) Novosel; and a brother, Raymond.
Roy was the self-employed owner of Helsel Hardware. He attended school through the eighth grade but was the smartest man his wife, Shirley, knew. He was a member of the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren and Park Hills Country Club, and he enjoyed golf, hunting and NASCAR.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, by the Rev. Marlys Hershberger. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren.
