George F. Smilnak, 82, Hollidaysburg, died unexpectedly Monday at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.
He was born in Lilly, son of John and Mary (Zurilla) Smilnak. He married Hermina (Utzman) Susa on April 9, 1960, in Virginia, and she died March 21, 2007, after having shared nearly 48 years of marriage.
Surviving are three daughters: JoAnn Goodwin and husband, Rodney, of Napa, Calif., Sherri Fidel and husband, Eric, of Youngville, Calif., and Constance Sweat and husband, Daniel, of Duncansville; three sons: Robert Susa and wife, Eileen, of Napa, Calif., and James Smilnak and wife, Karen, and Thomas Smilnak and wife, Barbara, all of Hollidaysburg; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Delores Hollop of Portage and Helen Smetana of Puritan.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Susa; two sisters: Agnes Lescznske and Frances George; and three brothers: John, Michael and Andrew.
George was a 1948 graduate of Lilly High School and retired from Conrail as a welder after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, and he enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Anthony J. Legarski. Committal will be at Corpus Christi Cemetery, Dunlo.
