Robert J. Wilk, 78, Coalport, died Tuesday at home.
He was born in Lilly, son of the late Frank and Anna (Slebodnick) Wilk.
Surviving are two daughters: Jeannette Williams (Daniel) and Susan Wilk, both of Coalport; a son-in-law, Hugh Yeckley of Coalport; four grandchildren: Sean and Matt Yeckley and Abigail and Daniel Williams; as well as several special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet (Bandrowsky), on July 28, 2007; a daughter, Julie Yeckley, on June 15, 2012; an infant brother and infant sister; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Ida (Leap); and a brother, Paul. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Bob was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He received an engineering degree and teaching degree from Penn State University, and he taught at Admiral Peary Area Vocational-Technical School, Ebensburg, retiring in 1997.
He was a founding member of the Glendale Medical Center, Glendale Industrial Development Association and Coalport Area Coal Museum, and he served on the board of directors of the Glendale Medical Center. He was a member of the Glendale School District Education Foundation, Coalport Lions Club, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Sokol Club of Lilly and Coalport VFW. He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Basil Catholic Church, Coalport.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events, fishing and camping and was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport, where a vigil service will be held Friday afternoon. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at St. Basil Catholic Church, Coalport, the Rev. Zab Amar as celebrant. Committal will be in the church cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Coalport VFW.
