Attillio J. Stefanon, 89, Altoona, died Monday at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born in Cassandra, son of the late Stephen J. and Agata (Famone) Stefanon. He married Rose A. Kuzminsky on Sept. 28, 1946, in Dilltown.
Surviving are his wife of more than 66 years; two sons: Stephen J. and wife, Marti, and Dennis J. and wife, Janice, all of Altoona; three grandchildren: Stephanie (Anthony) Roefaro, Laura (Matthew) Denaro and Megan (Matthew) Kerwin; and two great-grandchildren: Giovanna Roefaro and Alyssa Denaro.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Jacob, Tony and Severino Stefanon.
Attillio attended Ebensburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal and squad leader during World War II as part of Gen. George Patton's Third Army. He was an anti-tank gunner and took part in the action on D-Day, the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and in the Black Forest.
Attillio was employed by Blatt Brothers Theatres as general manager for 27 years. He retired in 1986 as a theater manager at Manos Theatres, Altoona, with four years of service.
Attillio was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Altoona. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
After his retirement in 1986, his happiest time was spent with his family and fishing with his two sons.
Attillio was a great source of strength, pride and joy for his family and all who knew him. He was an exceptional man, a steadfast friend and a loving and deeply loved husband, father, brother and grandfather. His sense of humor and unique laugh will be missed.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be celebrated during the visitation. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
