Roy L. "Hoss" Thomas, 63, Duncansville, lost his long hard-fought battle with cancer Wednesday at home.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late John V. and Hazel (Cunningham) Thomas. He married Wanda Settlemyer on July 28, 1979, in Tyrone.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Angelia Yingling (John); seven grandchildren: Chelsie (Jessi), Nathan, Timothy, Tucker and Tyler Singer and Cassara and Samantha Yingling; two great-granddaughters: Alaina and Shaelynn; a sister, Connie; a brother, John (Cathy); as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy R. Singer; a brother, Kenneth; and Sadie, his beloved pet.
Hoss was a 1967 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg. He had been employed by Newry Block/Romani Industries for more than 20 years and retired from Warnaco. He was a member of the Duncansville VFW Post 8724, and he enjoyed playing Texas hold'em with friends, watching Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins games with family and friends, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, by Pastor Ben Hoover. Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Relay for Life of The Cove.
