Mr. and Mrs. Raymond E. Amato of Tyrone celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Friday.
The couple met in Paris, France, in 1956 while serving in the military.
They were married April 12, 1958, at St. Helena's Catholic Church, Minneapolis.
Mrs. Amato is the former Joyce Merrick.
The couple have four children, Karen Post of Tyrone, Kathleen Edmiston of Harrisburg, Mike of Bellwood and Joseph of California.
They also have nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Mr. Amato retired from Conrail, Altoona.
He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and retired as a sergeant first class. He also served in active duty with the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1958.
He is an Antis Township supervisor, past president of Altoona Area Jaycees and past executive director of Junior Achievement, Altoona. He also coached Little League baseball for many years.
Mrs. Amato retired as a registered nurse from Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona, and worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital, Altoona, for many years.
She also served in the U.S. Air Force as a registered nurse from 1952 to 1958 in France and in Kimpo, Korea, as a captain.
