Bisons fall in finals
WINDBER - Windber captured the District 5 Class AA championship, thanks to a 5-0 win over Bedford.
Windber won three singles matches and both doubles matches to advance to the state tournament.
"Congratulations to Windber, they have a solid veteran team," Bedford coach Mark Anderson said. "Our goal was to win a district championship, but our boys still had a fine season. They can be proud of getting this far. We return a solid nucleus for next year"
Bedford will compete in the District 5 doubles tournament at home on Monday.
Windber advanced to the finals with a 4-1 win over Tussey Mountain. The Titans got their only victory at No. 2 where Aaron Duvall bested Stephen Thomas, 7-5, 6-1.
"Duvall put in a strong performance for us," Tussey Mountain coach Paul Brumbaugh said. "Although the season didn't end as we would have liked, we do have a nice core of returning players next year and will look to improve."
