Tanner was such a versatile player for us this year, at one point setting and running the offense to ultimately hitting outside and being one of our go to hitters."
James Piaggio, Altoona: Senior middle hitter PVCA All-District selection Season statistics: 94 kills, 142 blocks and 35 digs Coach Saboe: "James played such an important role for our team this season, and that role grew as the season progressed. He was a major part of the offense, even at points where he was not getting the ball, just because he would hold the opposing team's blockers to free up our other hitters."
Josh Huber, Altoona: Junior middle hitter PVCA All-District selection Season statistics: 95 kills, 134 blocks and 11 digs Received Altoona's Most Improved Award Coach John Saboe: "Josh was such a nice surprise this season. His development in the offseason was so great as he improved his connection with the setters and his blocking ability. We are hoping to see the same kind of improvement from his in this coming offseason so that he will become a true force at the net next season."
Brett Koelle, Altoona: Sophomore opposite/outside hitter PVCA All-District selection Season statistics: 248 kills, 117 service points, 29 aces, 80 blocks and 229 digs Mid-State Boys' Volleyball League All-Star Girls' volleyball manager Coach John Saboe: "Brett was also a guy who proved to be very versatile this season. Starting out as an outside hitter, but finally moving to his natural position of opposite by the end of the season, where he seemed to have really flourished. He has been the other go-to hitter for the team this season and really seems to have accepted that role as the season progressed. We are hoping to see continued improvement from him in the offseason and are very excited about his future potential."
Jamey Brumbaugh, Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic: Junior outside hitter PVCA, Class AA District 6 first team all-star in 2012 and 2013 Helped Bishop Guilfoyle to the school's first District 6 championship in 26 years of the program Season statistics: 234 kills, 259 digs and 133 service points with 31 aces Closing in on 1,000 digs for his career with 780 Three-year starter Coach Bob Kasun: "Jamey helped our team in so many ways. He consistently passed [2.5 passing average based on 3.0 scale] and played defense at a high level all season. Jamey had the ability to change the momentum in a match with one of his spectacular defensive plays. His hitting and serving continued to get stronger as the season progressed. Jamey was one of the main reasons for our success this season."
Nick Little, Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic: Junior middle hitter PVCA, Class AA District 6 first team and Mid-State Boys Volleyball League all-star in 2013 Helped BG to a 15-5 record and advancing to the PIAA state playoffs Season statistics: 101 service points with 25 aces, 282 kills, 90 blocks and 106 digs A member of the Keystone Region (Pennsylvania) team that competed in the USA High Performance National Championships Plays club volleyball for Revolution Volleyball Club in State College Three-year starter. Coach Bob Kasun: "Nick had the ability to take over a match at any time. He can be a force spiking and blocking. Nick's is one of our emotional leaders and our team feeds off. He has the ability to be a terminator on the court. There is a direct connection between Nick's development and our team's development."
Ben Kasun, Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic: Junior setter PVCA, Class AA District 6 first team and Mid-State Boys Volleyball League All-star in 2012 and 2013 A member of the PVCA All-State team in 2012 Helped BG to tournament championship at Warwick Tournament and a second place finish at Norwin Season statistics: 213 service points with 40 aces, 173 kills, 898 assists, 56 blocks and 191 digs Has 1,951 career assists Three-year starter Plays club volleyball for Revolution Volleyball Club in State College Member of the Keystone Region (Pennsylvania) team that competed in the USA Volleyball High Performance National Championship. Coach Bob Kasun: "Ben is a unique talent because he can influence a match with his setting, spiking, block and serving. He creates match-up problems. He's hard to defense for our opponents especially when he attacks as a left-handed setter. Ben has been able to use his volleyball experience to raise the level of this team."
Jeff Hogan, Northern Cambria: Three-time PVCA, Class AA all-district first team and Mid-State Boys Volleyball League all-star Named all-state in 2011 and 2012 Three-year starter and letter winner in football, basketball, and volleyball at NC District 6 championships in basketball '11 and volleyball '11 and '12 Member of the Pittsburgh Volleyball Club which qualified for and participated in US Nationals last year in Dallas last year and this year in Reno Northern Cambria and Miller Rocco 2013 scholar athlete award recipient Attending St. Francis University majoring in secondary education in Mathematics and he will be participating on the men's volleyball team Coach Mike Hogan, "As a father, teacher and coach over the last few years I couldn't be prouder of how Jeff has handled himself. Nick Lee, Northern Cambria: Two-time District 6, Class AA all-district first team and Mid-State Boys Volleyball league all-star Three-year starter and letter winner in golf, basketball and volleyball at NC District 6 championships in basketball '11 and volleyball '11 and '12 Member of National Guard and will be attending St. Francis University and trying out for the volleyball team Coach Mike Hogan: "Nick's natural athletic ability is truly amazing. He has become an outstanding volleyball player and it has been fun watching him grow and develop over the last few years. I'm glad he was part of our team and I wish him the best as he graduates from NC."
