Edward J. "Pino" McCloskey Jr., 82, Tunnelhill, died Saturday at Altoona Regional. He was born in Tunnelhill, son of the late Edward J. Sr. and Genevieve (Murphy) McCloskey. He will be missed by his loving extended family, including: Jeane Bruce of Loretto, Edwin (Karen) Bruce of Duncansville, Roxane (Ron) Hogue of Loretto, Russell (Linda) Bruce of Gallitzin, Timothy (fiancee, Jenette Reddon) of Ashville and Heidi (Brian) Skura of Lilly; 17 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two infant brothers: Francis and Raymond; brothers Joseph, Patrick, Paul "Rip" and James; an infant sister Mary Grace; and sisters: Irene Duffy, Regina McIntire, Marie Madonna, Dorothy Eichenlaub and Mildred McCloskey.
Pino was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War. He worked as an operator for PennDOT, retiring on Jan. 2, 1999, with more than 26 years of service. He was a member of Gallitzin American Legion, a former member of Ashville VFW, a member of Allegheny Rod & Gun Club, and a founding member of Mountain Top Sportsmen's Club. Pino enjoyed turkey hunting, fishing and gardening.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil service will be held Tuesday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, where Pino was a member, the Rev. Albert Ledoux and Monsignor Bernard Przybocki celebrants, with military rites by Gallitzin American Legion and other local military organizations. Committal will be at St. Michael's Cemetery, Loretto.
