Elizabeth J. Emig, 91, Martinsburg, passed away early Tuesday morning at Homewood at Martinsburg after a brief illness.
She was born in Akron, Ohio, daughter of the late Rexford O. and Florence A. (Seiter) John. She married the Rev. Donald W. Emig on Sept. 4, 1943, in Akron, and he passed away April 4, 1988.
Surviving are two sons: the Rev. John L. and wife, Beverly, of Duncansville and the Rev. Peter W. and wife, Julia, of Chambersburg; a daughter, Leslie A. Lawrence and husband, George, of DeWitt, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold, in 1932.
Elizabeth was a 1939 graduate of Our Lady of the Elms, Akron, and a 1943 graduate of Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, with a bachelor's degree in Spanish. She was a former elementary school teacher for 17 years, having taught at Kendall Elementary School, Norwalk, Conn. She was a member of the United Church of Rowayton in Rowayton, Conn., where she was a member of the choir for 40 years. She also had attended the former Christ United Church of Christ, Roaring Spring.
Elizabeth enjoyed swimming, letter writing and travel.
There will be no viewing. However, friends will be received from 12:30 until the 1:30 p.m. public memorial service Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg, the Revs. Jerry McCuller Jr. and John D. Bonebreak officiating. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at the United Church of Rowayton, Conn.
