Mildred E. Beerbower, 85, Duncansville, died Wednesday at The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville.
She was born in Indiana, Pa., daughter of Melvin V. and Agnes (Borland) Adams. She married Harry A. "Al" Beerbower on June 30, 1950, in Saegertown, and he died Aug. 16, 2010, after having shared 60 years of marriage.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane A. of Duncansville; a son, Don and wife, Karen, of Hollidaysburg; three grandchildren: Dr. Meghan Barroner and husband, Justin, Sgt. Nathan Beerbower, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, and wife, Ashley, and their daughter, Morgan, and A.J. Beerbower and wife, Heather; a brother, James and wife, Phyllis, of Saegertown and Florida; and two sisters-in-law: Florence Duell and Audrey Adams.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Melvin, Dale and Edward, who was killed in action in WWII.
Mildred was a 1945 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School in Crawford County and a 1949 graduate of Grove City College. She and her husband, Al, founded Beerbower Jewelers in 1954 in Hollidaysburg, and she taught at Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School for more than 20 years.
Mildred was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, and the Business and Professional Women's Club, Hollidaysburg. She loved animals, especially cats, gardening and oil painting.
Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. today, July 12, 2013, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m. by the Rev. Amy M. Raser. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
