I'm responding to your very recent and appropriate commentary regarding vehicle fatalities in our area.
Based on observations as a driver and avid bicyclist, I estimate that 90 percent of drivers travel 10-plus mph over the posted speed limits.
In addition, 70 percent do not use their turn signals as required by law.
So, it is amazing to me that there is not more carnage on our highways.
Irresponsible driving is a lethal epidemic. I think that the unifying theme here among drivers is the lack of regard for the safety of others.
Given that drivers far outnumber law enforcement, I sadly see no change in this situation.
