ORLANDO - The Ligonier Valley Shock won the USSSA Fastpitch World Series Girls 18-and-under B championship on Saturday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Champions Stadium.
The Shock completed the tournament with an 8-0 mark after edging the Delaware Fillies of Newark, Del., for the second time in two days, winning, 7-6 in eight innings.
The Ligonier Valley roster included pitcher Taylor Payne, a recent Bellwood-Antis High School graduate who is headed to Edinboro University, outfielder Sckylaur Kane and first baseman Morgan James, seniors at Altoona Area High School, and recent Chestnut Ridge High School graduate Bridgit Yothers.
ROCKFORD, Ill. - The PA Aftershock captured the USSSA Fastpitch World Series Girls 18-and-under B championship last Sunday.
The Rockford, Ill., event was held from July 24-28 and was one of two USSSA World Series tournaments held this summer with the other being held in Orlando.
The team was comprised of players from several school districts in Central Pennsylvania, including Jacqueline Finn, a junior at Bellwood-Antis High School.
The Aftershock went 8-1 while capturing the title. In pool play, the Aftershock defeated the Northern Illinois Thunder, 7-4, HF Force (Ill.), 15-1, and the Kansas City (Mo.) Vandals, 7-5. In double-elimination bracket play, the Aftershock defeated the Topeka (Kan.) Crush, 8-1, Greenfield (Wis.) Igniters, 7-1, Battle Creek (Mich.) Gators, 2-1, and the Algonquin (Ill.) Aces, 4-2, to reach the finals.
The defending champion Algonquin Aces defeated the Aftershock, 3-1, which created a winner-take-all game. The Aftershock won that game, 7-0, to capture the title.
