Margaret E. Grove, 89, Altoona, died Sunday afternoon at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Charles Samuel and Mary Catherine (Condron) Gensamer. She married Earl Rodger "Umpy" Grove on Aug. 31, 1947, in Altoona, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 2008.
Surviving are four children: Bonnie Porta and husband, Michael, of York, E. Randy and wife, Susan, Charles R. and wife, Doreen, and Tammy Cooney and husband, Thomas, all of Altoona; 11 grandchildren: Tracy Baum, Shane Porta, Amy Allen, Randy Grove, Jaime Friedenberger, Charles R. Grove Jr., Becky Sue Lidwell, Wendy Schimminger, Michael Schimminger, Amber Marie Cooney and Justin Cooney; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles S. Gensamer Jr.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Earl Grove; and two sisters: Helen Long and Dorothy Boughamer.
Margaret was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School and a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona, and the King's Crusaders Sunday school class. She enjoyed roller skating and was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, former Altair Chapter 490, and a current member of the Delphi Chapter 65.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where an Eastern Star service will be held. Friends will also be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., the Rev. Greg Johnson officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
