Josephine R. Cichetta, 95, Altoona, died Monday at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Calogero and Malchonia (Tripician) Fiore. She married Michael J. Cichetta on Jan. 31, 1942, at Mount Carmel Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death July 9, 1992.
Surviving are two children: Michael J. Jr. (Janet) of Altoona and Judy (James) Cocchiaro of Bowie, Md.; six grandchildren: Robert, Joseph and Theresa Cocchiaro and Christina, Angela and Amanda Cichetta; three great-grandchildren: Madison, Dominic and Alexander Cocchiaro; and a sister, Lillian Cichetto of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Fiore; and five sisters: Frances Condron, Caroline Fiore, Louise Benn, Marie Fiore and Jennie Merilli.
Josephine was a 1936 graduate of Altoona High School and retired in 1981 as a seamstress from Puritan. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and she enjoyed spending time with her family, doing yard work and shopping.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
