The longtime executive director of the Blair County Arts Foundation has been named as the 27th recipient of the Blair County Chamber's Athena Leadership Award.
Kate Shaffer, who has held the position for 20 years, will receive the award at the Feb. 13 Chamber Breakfast Club at The Casino at Lakemont Park.
The Athena Leadership Award is presented to a woman - or man - who is honored for professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.
Shaffer said she was stunned to learn she would receive the award.
"I am really honored. It is a privilege to serve on the chamber board; they do such a great job. For me what I do in the community is a blessing in my life. I am overwhelmed by this whole thing," Shaffer said.
