WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — The chief of a volunteer fire department in northeastern Pennsylvania will repay the agency more than $45,000 to help settle theft allegations.
Federal authorities say 51-year-old John Yuknavich must also step down from his position in Wilkes-Barre Township.
Court documents filed Thursday indicate Yuknavich will plead guilty to theft from local government programs. He's scheduled to appear in court Sept. 25.
Aiuthorities say Yuknavich used fire department funds for personal use while serving as chief between 2008 and 2011.
Yuknavich had been facing similar state charges. The Luzerne County district attorney says she'll drop those in lieu of the federal case.
Wilkes-Barre Township is a suburb of the much larger city of Wilkes-Barre.
