BELLWOOD - The Relay For Life of Northern Blair is scheduled for July 11 and 12 at the Bellwood-Antis High School athletic field.
July 1 starts the "Paint the Town Purple" campaign, and the communities of Bellwood, Tyrone and Warriors Mark are invited to show their support in the battle against cancer by decorating their homes and businesses in purple.
This year, as in past years, a contest will be held for the best-decorated home and business.
Community members are invited to send pictures of their decorated homes and businesses to the Relay For Life of Northern Blair committee for a chance to win.
The residential winner will be awarded a Relay For Life gift, and the business winner will get their business name listed on a plaque that can be displayed in their business until next year.
The past two years, the winner was Joanne's Dog Station of Bellwood, upon giving away the "traveling" plaque, they will receive a small plaque recognizing them as the winner.
All photos received will be displayed at the event and randomly numbered. Community members and team members can then vote for their favorite decorated house and business.
The winner will be announced at the closing ceremony at 9 a.m. July 12.
All photo submissions (include your name and phone number and community) must be received before July 10; photos can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
This year, the community that sends in the most photos will be recognized as the Most Relay Spirited Community and will receive a special traveling plaque.
Decorating can be done by simply placing a purple flag or bow out front or it can be taken to the extreme with balloons, banners, and even paint.
The Relay For Life is hoping that painting the town purple will help raise cancer awareness and get more of the community involved in Relay for Life in future years.
