HOLLIDAYSBURG - The Jaycee Memorial Park, corner of Juniata and Allegheny streets, is a tribute to men and women in the military.
The existing monument and area around it, has needed repair for quite a while - until now.
Boy Scout Eagle candidate Van Lanzendorfer III from Boy Scout Troop 34 made it his mission to restore the monument by making it his Eagle Scout Leadership Project.
Shown at Van Lanzendorfer III’s Eagle Scout project are (from left):?George Weber, Scoutmaster; Dave Woleslagle, Eagle board advancement chairman; Mark G. Schroyer, borough manager; and Lanzendorfer.
With the help of fellow Scouters, friends and family and local artist Michael J. Allison, the monument received a facelift.
The monument was washed down to remove the stains from the weather, new solar lights installed, newly planted perennials, new pavers in support of the four service disciplines, various site improvements, and new busts representing the Navy, Air Force, Army and Marines.
The project was completed in May.
