William G. Pfeffer Jr., 67, Altoona, died Wednesday at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late William G. Sr. and E. Kathryn (Conrad) Pfeffer. He married Bonnie L. Holderman on July 20, 1968.
Surviving are his wife; two sons: William G. III (Julie Roberts) and Douglas R. (Theresa), both of Altoona; a daughter, Robyn L. at home; four grandchildren: Bailey, Hannah, Kendra and Justin; a brother, Dr. Bruce Pfeffer (Susan) of Haymarket, Va.; a niece, Christina Caporale (Peter); a nephew, Ryan Pfeffer; and his mother-in-law, Ruth A. Holderman of Hollidaysburg.
Bill graduated from Bishop Guilfoyle High School. He attended Point Park University in Pittsburgh, graduated from Robert Morris University and received his master's degree from Penn State University. He retired from the Altoona Area School District as principal of Roosevelt Junior High School after more than 33 years of service.
He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Altoona and Park Hills Country Club. He was an avid sports fan, especially of University of Pittsburgh sports and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He enjoyed golfing, going to casinos and spending time with his grandchildren.
Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Altoona, Father Ronald V. Osinski officiating. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
