Eleanor J. (O'Leary) Nedimyer, 88, died Sunday morning at Graystone Manor at Bellmeade.
She was born in Juniata, daughter of John Robert and Catherine O'Leary. She married her true love, Augustine "Cal" Nedimyer, in 1943 at Holy Rosary Church, and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1986.
Surviving are a son, Michael Nedimyer and wife, Gail, of Altoona; a daughter, Karen Longenecker and husband, Chuck, of Carlisle; five grandsons: Sean, Reid and Kent Nedimyer, Chris Longenecker and wife, Shana, and Brian Longenecker and wife, Christina; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Lou King and husband, Ed; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanor attended Altoona High School and received a GED when she was 50 years old. She worked at Sylvania/GTE/North American Philips for 39 years. She was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, and she enjoyed camping and was a charter member of the Horseshoe Drifters. She was a world traveler, an avid reader and bird watcher, and truly loved spending time with her family, including her pup, Ellie.
Eleanor will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and for her kindness to everyone she met. She was truly one of God's treasures. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 7:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, the Rev. Ronald Osinski as celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
