Mary (Rieker) Sartain, 54, Austin, Texas, formerly of Altoona, died Thursday in Austin.
She was born in Indiana, Pa., daughter of the late George E. Jr. and Theresa M. (Miller) Rieker.
Surviving are a son, David of Leander, Texas; a granddaughter, Kinley Rae Sartain; and six siblings: Steven G., James P. and G. Edward, all of Pittsburgh, Joseph L. and Robert W., both of Wilmington, N.C., and Suzzanne (Rieker) Savad in New York.
Mary attended Bishop Guilfoyle High School and graduated from Altoona High School. She joined Cibachrome in Dallas after graduating from Kutztown University. She was the former co-owner of The Rieker Agency, Altoona. She was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Altoona.
Mary was an insightful artist and photographer. She experimented in different types of media, most notably in infrared photography. Her last works collected street personalities captured with her phone as she explored Austin, Texas. She collected antique jewelry, woven hats and unique artifacts, which she generously shared with others. She will always be remembered for her love, compassion and sense of style. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Altoona, with Monsignor Michael E. Becker presiding. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
