Bedford man’s attempted homicide case continued
The preliminary hearing for an 81-year-old Bedford County man charged with attempted homicide of his wife was continued Wednesday until March 30, according to Magisterial District Judge Brian K. Baker.
Donald R. Rose was arrested March 5 by state police after he allegedly struck his 80-year-old wife with a pot, large spoons, and with a knife.
According to police reports, a maintenance employee of the Victoria Apartment Building heard screaming from the Rose residence and a comment, “He is trying to kill me.”
The maintenance employee, who was working across from the Rose residence, attempted to open the door but initially could not because the woman was lying in front of the door.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the maintenance employee yelled into the residence, telling Donald to back off and stay away from his wife.
The woman was eventually able to open the door with her foot.
She said, “He stabbed me. He hit me with a pot,” according to the affidavit.
The employee called 911 and the complex’s front desk to seek aid for the woman.
The victim was flown to UPMC Altoona where she was treated for life-
threatening injuries, the police affidavit stated. According to emergency personnel, she suffered from at least three stab wounds.
Donald Rose told the trooper he and his wife had an argument the night of March 4.
The spat continued into the morning of March 5, and he became increasingly angry.
The affidavit stated Donald grabbed a pot and large spoons and hit her with those items.
He then obtained a “regular” knife and stabbed her.
When she fell, he did not attempt to help her, he told investigators.
Rose faces charges of criminal attempted homicide, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime and possession of a weapon.
He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Tonya M. Osman. Bail was denied, and Rose remains in the Bedford County Correctional Facility.
He is being represented by the Bedford County Public Defender’s Office.
