Curwensville man charged in alleged rape of teenager
CLEARFIELD — Rape charges have been filed against a Curwensville man for allegedly assaulting a teenager and then threatening to kill her family if she told anyone.
Earlier this month, Taylor James English, 29, was also charged by Clearfield Regional Police with felony counts of criminal attempt/involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, intimidating a victim and possession of firearm prohibited, as well as misdemeanor corruption of minors, indecent assault, terroristic threats, simple assault and disorderly conduct.
The criminal complaint suggests there may be other victims among his co-workers at a Lawrence Township business.
The alleged assault occurred at a neighboring business on the Clearfield Shawville Highway in June of last year, according to court documents.
According to the affidavit, the investigation began after the teenager reported to a counselor that she had been raped by English.
The girl’s mother also reported that English had a gun with him at work. English, previously convicted of criminal trespass, is not permitted to have a firearm, court documents state.
In an interview at the Clearfield County Child Advocacy Center in August, the girl explained that English asked her to stay after her shift ended so he could talk to her about “issues he was having with his fiance.”
After he arrived early for his shift that day, he offered to “smoke her up,” which she did not accept. They walked to a motel next door and he led her to a steep slope behind the building. She refused to go down the slope and he “grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her with him as he walked down,” the report states.
In that secluded area, he threatened to kill her whole family if she did not do what he asked. When he told her to take her pants off, she refused. It was then he allegedly pushed her to the ground and raped her. Afterward, he attempted to rape her again, but she was able to push free and ran to the parking lot. He followed and reportedly threatened her family again, the affidavit states.
The victim said she had to keep working with him after the assault which made her “want to kill herself.”
Because she told two co-workers about the rape, English pressured her to tell them the sex was consensual, she said.
He sent her messages that were sexual in nature and later he told her to delete them because he was loyal to his fiance, she said.
During one video call, he showed her a pistol and threatened to shoot her sister first if she told anyone, she told investigators.
A co-worker told police that the girl had told her the same story about the rape. She stated that English “creeped her out” and she tried to keep her distance from him.
A separate investigation by state police is reportedly being conducted for an assault on a different teen victim.
At one point, English’s fiance confronted both girls about having sex with English.
In his interview with investigators, English claimed the girls and his ex-fiance Nikki Leach were “in cahoots.” He denied the allegations, court documents state.
It was discovered that the gun belonged to Leach, who, when questioned, admitted she purchased it in 2020.
In a second interview, English claimed the sex was consensual and confirmed the video call during which the gun was visible. He denied that he actually handled it. Eventually, he admitted that the call could be perceived as threatening, according to the report.
This case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 3 during centralized court.
Online court documents indicate English, who was advised of the charges via a summons, has not been arraigned or incarcerated in this case.
