Halloween, trick-or-treat events

Holiday functions scheduled around the region

With Halloween just around the corner, parades, trick-or-treat nights and other activities are being held in the coming days.

The following parades are scheduled:

Hollidaysburg

Several streets in Hollidaysburg will be closed to traffic Saturday, Oct. 26, for the 88th annual Phoenix Volunteer Fire Company’s Halloween parade. Starting at 4 p.m., Union Street from Hart Street to Longer Elementary will be restricted to parade participants only.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. and will include area organizations, marching bands, floats, mummers and first responders, among others.

Gallitzin

The Gallitzin Halloween parade is slated to be held at noon Sunday, Oct. 27. Trick or treating will follow until 4 p.m.

Ebensburg

The Ebensburg Halloween parade and trick or treat will be held Sunday, Oct. 27.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. at Dauntless Fire Hall on West Sample Street, turn right onto North Center, right onto West High Street and then right again on Julian Street. Trick-or-treating will be held after the parade and until 4 p.m.

Portage

Portage will hold a Halloween parade at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, with trick-or-treat to follow from 4 to 6 p.m.

Alum Bank

The Alum Bank Halloween parade will be held at 7 p.m., with lineup at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The parade begins and ends at Creative Pultrusions, across from the Alum Bank Fire Hall, in Pleasantville, Bedford County.

Bedford

The Bedford Elks annual Halloween parade will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in downtown Bedford. The parade will line up on the north side of Pitt Street, near Giant Eagle, and will head west on Pitt Street before turning left on Juliana Street and disbanding at the Bedford County Courthouse.

Everett

The Everett Halloween parade will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, with line up to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Trick-or-Treat events planned:

– Trick or Treat in Blair County will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.

– Trick or treat for Dean Township will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.

– Trick or treat in Carrolltown will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.

– Trick or treat in Cresson is set for 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.

– Trick or treat in Patton Borough will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.

Other Halloween events set

– Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold a trunk or treat event from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 in the church parking lot, 1200 Fourth Ave, Duncansville. The Duncansville police and fire departments will also be participating. This is a free event.

– Calvary United Methodist Church, 167 Blue Ball Road, West Decatur, will hold Treats from the Trunk from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. Set up will be in the Boggs Township lot across from the church. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the church basement.

The Boggs Township Trick or Treat will begin at 6 p.m.

– Lakemont Lions Club will host a community Trunk or Treat event at the Greenwood Lions Park from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

Children in costume and their families are invited to the park for Halloween treats. Lakemont Lions Club members will decorate cars or trunks, and offer candy and other treats. Other Club members will have free hot dogs and water available for children and adults in the park’s pavilion. This is a “rain or shine” event, with treats available while supplies last. Greenwood Lions Park is near the corner of Walton Avenue and Greenwood Road.

All children attending must be accompanied by an adult.

For witches and others in need of a new broom, the Club will be selling Lions brooms, which come in two sizes. The Deluxe Corn Household Broom is $15 with a medium-size broom at $12. The child-size version is $8. Both varieties are made in the USA, and sales support the Lakemont Club’s local services.
