Blair County attorney disciplined
HARRISBURG — A state board has disciplined a Blair County attorney by putting him on probation for two years, subject to conditions requiring him to maintain ongoing treatment for alcoholism and compliance with conditions to monitor sobriety.
Matthew Paul Gieg, 44, who maintains an office at 411 Wayne St., Hollidaysburg, has consented to the action, thereby allowing a one-year-plus-a-day suspension to be stayed, the Disciplinary Board of the state Supreme Court of Pennsylvania announced Dec. 9.
In addition to maintaining a Hollidaysburg office, Gieg is listed as an associate with the Butler law firm of Dillon, McCandless, King, Coulter and Graham.
In support of its action, the disciplinary board identified violations of professional conduct rules related to Gieg’s representation, in 2021, 2022 and 2023 of clients involved in three legal matters, including two divorce cases.
Further disciplinary action could be initiated if he fails to adhere to probationary conditions. The board indicated that Gieg, who began practicing law in 2008, had no prior disciplinary actions.
