Everett man facing new charges

From Mirror staff reports

An Everett man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in November 2024 had new charges filed against him in a separate case in which he allegedly molested a 5-year-old girl in late 2023.

Michael Jon Gibbons, 50, was arraigned Friday by Magisterial District Judge Kevin R. Diehl on one felony count of corruption of minors – defendant aged 18 or above and endangering the welfare of children, as well as one misdemeanor count of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age. In lieu of $100,000 bail, he was remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility.

On Dec. 18, 2024, a state police officer at Bedford was assisting in a Children and Youth investigation involving a 5-year-old victim, who said she used to cuddle with Gibbons on the couch. The victim said Gibbons put his hands on the inside of her thigh before touching her crotch and moving his hand in an up-and-down motion, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

During a Child’s Advocacy Center interview conducted with the victim, her parents asked her if Gibbons had ever touched her inappropriately. The victim said Gibbons had and grabbed her crotch to demonstrate what he had done. She told her parents she was 4 years old when this happened and believed it was in the fall or winter months of 2023, court documents state.

Gibbons is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in front of Diehl on Jan. 15.

Gibbons was already taken into custody on Dec. 13, 2024, after state police received a report of a sexual assault involving a 12-year-old victim and

Gibbons on Nov. 22 at a residence in West Providence Township, Bedford County.

In that case, Gibbons was charged with two felony counts of corruption of minors - defendant age 18 or above, as well as two misdemeanor counts each of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age and endangering the welfare of children. His bail was also set at $100,000.

The 12-year-old victim was interviewed at a Children’s Advocacy Center on Dec. 10, where she revealed Gibbons had touched her while they were on a four-wheeler ride. She was sitting in front of Gibbons with her hands on the handlebars when Gibbons began touching her “lower part” over her clothing, police records state.

Gibbons waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Dec. 18, 2024, sending those charges to the court of common pleas. He is now awaiting a pre-trial conference, online court documents state.
