Workers are remodeling the former Bed Bath & Beyond space in Logan Town Centre to create a HomeGoods store.

Logan Township issued a building permit in January for the $804,000 project in the 24,000-square-foot space to Clearheart Construction, according to township Planning Director Cassandra Schmick.

No land development plan was needed, because the work is taking place in an existing building, Schmick said.

The store will be smaller than the HomeGoods in the Colonnade at State College, according to Schmick.

The store in State College and one in the Richland Towne Center in Johnstown are the regional locations among a total of 34 in Pennsylvania and 2,130 in the U.S., according to a tally of information on the company website.

Store departments include furniture, lighting, rugs, outdoor, gifts, bedding, bath, home, accents, storage, dining, pet, wall decor and mirrors, kitchen, essentials, seasonal and decor, according to the website.

The store offers discounted prices on name brands, according to a 2022 article in House Digest.

HomeGoods was founded in 1992 and is part of the TJX conglomerate.

It’s a sister store to T.J. Maxx, according to the article.

The company of which those stores are a part was founded in 1919 as a hosiery business called the New England Trading Co., according to the article.

TJX’s major divisions are Marmaxx, HomeGoods, TJX Canada and TJX International. TJX was operating about 4,700 discount retail stores in nine countries as of 2022, according to the article.
