Police: Suspect found in gun safe
Jones sought on probation violation
A Bedford man was arrested after allegedly violating his probation and hiding from police in a firearms safe with three rifles within reach.
Tyler Wade Jones, 42, was arraigned Wednesday in Bedford County court before Magisterial District Judge Tonya M. Osman on three felony counts of possession of a firearm prohibited and one misdemeanor count of evading arrest. Unable to post $75,000 bail, he was remanded to Bedford County Prison.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, a detective with the Bedford County District Attorney’s Office was notified on March 20 that the county probation chief had Jones, a probation absconder at the time, in custody at a residence along the 200 block of Trenton Road in Everett.
Officers were advised by other people being interviewed in the house that Jones was in the basement and officers found him inside a firearms safe. There were three rifles with scopes in the safe with Jones. He is a convicted felon not to possess firearms.
Jones’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 2 before Osman.
