Shirley M. Smith

Shirley M. Smith, 84, of Roaring Spring, went home to be with the Lord Friday afternoon at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Hopewell, the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Desiree (Ott) Cornelius. She married Charles A. “Charlie” Smith on June 4, 1955, in Martinsburg.

She is survived by her husband; six children: Kathy Jo Creps and husband, Roy of Murrysville, Lane A. Smith of Roaring Spring, Kelly P. Smith of Roaring Spring, Kevin L. Smith and wife, Lisa of Martinsburg, Lon A. Smith and wife, Kathy of Martinsburg, and Lyle R. Smith and wife, Dawn of Roaring Spring; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and special members of the family, Wayne and Nancy Bush and Lucas Runk. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Shirley was a member of First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, where she and Charlie were active in the Shepherd/Undershepherd Program, the Mr. & Mrs. Sunday school class, and the Tuesday Bible Study Group. She was a member of the Class of 1957 at Morrison Cove High School. Shirley retired as a Registered Nurse from Nason Hospital after 32 years of service.

She enjoyed flowers and baking, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their sporting events and supporting the Spring Cove athletic programs. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Nason Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice, especially Michelle and Virgina, for their care and support.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring; Pastor Dave Crumrine and Pastor Marlys Hershberger officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to First Church of the Brethren. Arrangements are by Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring.
