Mary Margaret Duffield
July 17, 1946 – June 25, 2024
Mary Margaret Duffield, 77, of Altoona, died early Tuesday morning at UPMC Altoona following a brief illness. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late John James and Bertha (Lutz) Basom.
Mary married William B. Duffield who preceded her in death in 1994. She later spent many years with her life partner, Ronald Hill, who also preceded her.
Surviving is her daughter, Mary Marlene (Robert) Staph of Bellmeade; three siblings: Leona Boyer, Beverly Mauk and John Basom; a niece; many nephews; and a special family member, Sparkle, who was raised in her home.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Shyral Hampton and Janet Basom.
Mary was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired as a manager at Family Dollar, Altoona, with 22 years of service.
She was a member of the former East End United Methodist Church, Altoona where she taught Sunday school.
Mary was a devoted volunteer to the Miracle League of Blair County and her caring and compassion shined with her love of helping her friends and neighbors.
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood.
