Donna M. Shero
March 1, 1942 – Nov. 2, 2024
Donna M. Shero, 82, Carrolltown, passed away Saturday peacefully in her home.
She was born in Colver, daughter of Theodore R. and Elizabeth “Tootsie” (Mihalik) Lapina.
She is survived by her children: Nancy Rezk, Barbara Sharbaugh, Suzi Shero and Becky Shero (Eb); a son-in-law, John Eckenrode; grandchildren: Jonathan, Ricky (Julie), Samantha (Charlie), Elizabeth (Jordan), Neil (Alexa), Annie (Kelly), Jacob, Mikey and Sam; great-grandchildren: Stephen, Layla, Tyler, Courtney, Mackenzie, Madison, Alexis, Emma and Elliot; and “grandpets”: Piper, Sesame, Lavender and Lady Grey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard Shero; and her daughter, Judith Eckenrode.
Donna was a wonderfully strong, hardworking, creative and loving woman. She was formerly employed at Cambria Medical Supply and retired from Sears, Altoona. She was a member of St. Benedict Church, Carrolltown, and a lifetime member of the Bavarian Club, Altoona, along with her dearest friend, Peggy (lovingly known to Donna as “Margaret”).
She was a proud Mum to her five girls and Gma to multiple grandchildren, always praising each of their accomplishments in life. Donna loved her cat, Catie, who preceded her in death along with her “grandpets”: Buddha James, Cowher, Tessa and Oat. She was an avid gardener and cook, often found canning her produce and making her famous marinara sauce from her 100-year-old tomatoes. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting with her dear friends at the Creative Fabrics and Quilt Shop in Ebensburg. Above all, Donna loved spending time with her loved ones, whether playing tennis in her early years, making dozens and dozens of pierogies with her daughters and grandkids, hitting up the casino at Rocky Gap or simply browsing the dinner menu for Saturday night take-out.
Donna will be dearly missed by all who have known her, and her family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude for the individuals at Resta and 365 Hospice for allowing her wishes to be honored in the last moments of her life.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 146 N. Main St., Carrolltown.
