Altoona captures first win

JOHNSTOWN — The Altoona Area High School ice hockey team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday night, beating Conemaugh Valley, 10-2, at 1st Summit Arena at Cambria County War Memorial.

The Mountain Lions (1-2) led 6-1 after one period after falling behind early, 1-0. Altoona got two goals each from Noah Staines, Ricky Crum, Cayden Helsel and Owen Piper.

Conemaugh Valley got its goals from Hayden Gates , who scored his in the first period of play, and Walter Hamula, who notched his goal in period No. 2. The Mountain Lions finished the game with 59 shots on goal.

Goalie Seth Conrad stopped 14 shots on goal for Altoona, which plays again on Thursday, Nov. 7, at home against Forest Hills.
